A Review of the Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports Lens

Usually, if you want to use a supertelephoto prime lens for things like wildlife or sports photography, you have to use first-party options. However, Sigma offers a rare exception to that rule, the 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports, and it offers that combination of extra-long focal length and wide aperture sought after by many professionals at a significantly more affordable price. Can it match pace with the likes of Canon and Nikon? This great video review takes a look at the lens to answer that question.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this awesome review looks at the 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports lens. Sigma is known for providing impressive image quality at prices that undercut those of first-party lenses, often by a significant margin, and the 500mm is no exception to that rule, costing several thousands of dollars less than Canon and Nikon options. While I have not had the pleasure of using this lens, I have owned the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports for several years, and I have always been impressed not just by its image quality, but by its autofocus performance and durability, both of which are strict requirements for any user of a supertelephoto prime. If the 500mm f/4 is anything like that Sports option, it is sure to be a great choice. Check out the video above for Frost’s full thoughts on the lens.
