Canon Patents Two More Interesting Lenses

Canon has had the pedal to the floor when it comes to lens development for the last few years, and it seems they have no intention of stopping. Two new patents have emerged that show two more extreme lens designs, both based on respected DSLR lenses.

New patents have been discovered by Northlight Images, detailing two new Canon lenses: the RF 11-24mm f/4L and RF 8-24mm f/4L Fisheye. While the appearance of a patent does not guarantee a product will come to market, there is precedent for both these lenses. The EF 11-24mm f/4L USM was a widely respected lens (I was a big fan when I reviewed it), and I would not be surprised to see Canon update it for the RF mount. On the other hand, we have not seen an 8-24mm fisheye before, but the EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM turned a lot of heads for being a high-quality zooming fisheye lens and enjoyed a good reputation for both image quality and creative potential, so an 8-24mm version would certainly not be unheard of or unwelcome. I would love to see both come to the market eventually!
